Doug Horner

Digital Strategy, Analytics

Commerx was enlisted to deliver a multi-faceted online campaign for Progressive Conservative Leadership Candidate , the Honorable Doug Horner. Our strategic approach was to harness the full spectrum of digital offerings and capabilities: strategic planning, email, web design & development, video & motion graphics, content strategy & social media outreach, search engine optimization, online advertising & promotion campaigns and detailed analytics analysis.

Using leading edge technology we A/B tested, hot-screened, and profiled users to generate the  necessary data to make decisions. Through proper timing and periodization, we were able to keep supporters engaged through the duration of the campaign.

No one is overly keen to watch a presentation of a government policy, so we created interactive videos that were engaging and interesting. We streamed live video through Doug’s Facebook page during election night, as well as hosting Digital Town Halls.

Doug’s schedule didn’t allow him huge amounts of time to interact with voters spread across Alberta and the younger generation wasn’t coming to the events planned for the older populations. So we brought the discussion to them – we facilitated anyone being able to contact Doug directly via Twitter and get a rapid response and also increased his Facebook “likes” from 882 to 4,652. The overwhelmingly positive response to this engaging social media outreach (and the resulting media attention) was an unqualified success and a first for a political campaign.

Doug’s website was in a constant state of evolution and optimization, as funnels, goals and conversions were being tweaked and refined constantly. Further complicating this effort was the need to factor in the profiles of the voters, the web browsers they were using (we saw Netscape 1.2 in the data logs!), and bandwidth speeds with which they had.
